Home › How it works
TaskMatchAI is a free directory of 101 AI tools across 10 categories. You describe a task in plain English and it returns the best-matched tools, each with a short reason. This page explains exactly how that works.
Your task description is compared with each tool's name, one-line description and tags using BM25, a standard keyword relevance model. Tags count three times as much as description words, common synonyms are added at a lower weight (for example "transcribe" also looks for "transcription"), tools in the category your task implies get a 30% boost, and tools that match more of your own words rank higher.
No. Organic rankings are never paid and affiliate links never change the order. A paid "Featured" listing is always labeled "Featured" and gets a small (10%) boost only on searches it already matches. There are currently no featured listings.
Tools are hand-picked and reviewed before they are added; each listing links to the tool's own website, and the description and pricing label are written from that site. A blank pricing label means we have not verified it. Dead or changed listings are removed or updated. Listing URLs were last checked on 2026-10-16.
Matching runs in your browser with JavaScript; there are no user accounts and searches are not saved to a database. Aggregate traffic is measured with Cloudflare Web Analytics.

audio (9) · coding (9) · data (6) · design (8) · image (11) · marketing (11) · productivity (15) · research (6) · video (12) · writing (14). The full dataset is public at /tools.json and summarized for AI assistants at /llms.txt. Use-case guides are generated from the same ranking model and drop weak matches, so a guide only exists when at least three tools fit.
